Navarathiri and Dusshera Greetings! Happy Gandhi Jayanthi! We have a couple of updates for this month:
- This Sunday (Oct 6th) we will be celebrating Saraswati Puja for a part of the class time. Children will be able to see the temple’s golu arrangement in the Maha mandapam and also be part of the puja. Please plan on coming to class promptly at 11. We will have class instruction and then assemble the children and then escort them to the puja. At the end of the puja, we will return to classes before dismissal. The temple has arranged for a token gift and prasadam to be distributed to the children. This is a great opportunity for you to speak to your children about how there are different customs, traditions and practices in different parts of India during this festival. Note that the temple has a packed schedule for Brahmotsavam this week.
- Gandhi Jayanthi is being celebrated on Sunday, Oct 6th at the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium. Since this year marks Gandhiji’s 150th anniversary, a special event is planned. More details here.
- On Sunday, Oct 20th, the Hindu Jain Temple is organizing a Diya and Akash Kandil craft activity between 1-2pm. Please use this link to RSVP for the event if you would like to participate (note that RSVP is mandatory – please direct any questions directly to the organizer).
- We have a correction to the class calendar. We will be having class on Sunday, Oct 27th (Deepavali) but will skip class the following Sunday (Nov 3rd), as the temple celebration of Deepavali is scheduled on Nov 2nd evening. The class calendar previously indicated that we did not have class on Oct 27th but has been updated to reflect the change.
